Shadow copies dissappear 2003 SP1
Reading MS articles, it appears we may need to move the location of our shadow copies off the media server's main drive F (which gets quite busy with disk I/O during nightly backups) to a dedicated drive for shadow copies. When trying to move the location in F drive properties\ShadowCopy tab, I get an error saying a backup is in progress. This never goes away, no matter how long I wait. Stopping the Shadow Copy service does not help. How do I get around this without a support call to MS? Thanks in advance...

Re: Shadow copies dissappear 2003 SP1
We found that an application had created a snapshot and Microsoft VSS will not let go of it until the application that created the snap lets go of it. In our case, Symantec Continous Protection server had created the snapshot. We had to use CPS to delelte the snapshots it had created before the snapshot properties tab would allow us to change the location of the drive. Makes sense, but hard to know this. Just an FYI to anyone tripping over the issues. I saw nothing anywhere regarding the topic. Now there is one....HH
