Backup Exec advanced backup configuration
I am a systems engineer responsible for backup and restore for a mid sized internet company. We are an HP Windows shop. I have Symantec Backup Exec 10d running on a DL360 G4 with 2003 SP2 connected to a MSL6060 library, and two DL380s connected to MSL5024s. My average backup job is about 400 to 600 gig. The MSL6060s have LTO2 drives at 200/400. The MSL5024s have SDLT320 160/320. My average job shows only 80 gig being saved on a tape before spanning. I've created adequate partition sizes to support the jobs and 3-4 day overwrite protection with unlimited append settings on my media sets. Does anyone know have I can just tell backupexec to fill up the damn tape before spanning to the next? I'm constantly sending 20 tapes a week to Iron Mountain and it's getting expensive.
