W2K Server issues
I am currently running a W2K server in my organisation to handle everything from log on's to e-mail and back up. (We are a very small org and cant afford to do it any other way!)
I have just returned from 3 weeks away to find my server in utter disarray. I believe I have had some sort of virus which has reconfigured lots of areas on my server. At the time of writing, I cannot: - Edit any security policy (domain, local or domain controller) Copy and paste files from any window. All are locked down as restricted sites. Toggle the view hidden files and folders option in tools/folder options Run Exchange Administrator Swith of Active X control alerts which are preventing me from viewing control panel correctly. I have attempted to restore my OS partition using the Directory Services Restore Mode available as my server is the Domain Controller. However, when I attempt to run Veritas Backup in DSRM mode, it comes up with an error message saying the Backup Exec Device and Media Service will not start. The database does not exist. This is leaving me with few options other than to rebuild my server's OS partition. Any ideas how to fix it without rebuild would be much appreciated. Otherwise, is there any way I can back up my user accounts in a format that I do not have to rebuild them when I restore? What impact would this have on the Security Accounts manager?
