Can't update to SP2 in server '03
Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster. I did a search and couldnt find any threads relevant to my question even though im sure its been asked before.
I am working on a dell poweredge 1800 server running Win server 2003. Its got 2 single core 32bit xenon processors, 1 GB ram, and a raid 0 array. It seems like i am the first person to touch it since it was installed over a year ago. It still has SP1 and an trying to get it current with SP2 and all of the securty updates. my problem is that when i try the updates via microsoft's website it fails to install. when i try downloading sp2 to CD and installing it give me an error that says "service pack 2 setup cannot update a checked (debug) system with w free (retail) version of SP2, or vice versa." any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks, Phil |

Re: Can't update to SP2 in server '03
Thanks for the response Ecro. The event viewer definitely shed some light on the problem.
Event Type: Error Event Source: NtServicePack Event Category: None Event ID: 4373 Date: 9/11/2007 Time: 10:24:15 AM User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Computer: ***** Description: The description for Event ID ( 4373 ) in Source ( NtServicePack ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Windows Server 2003, Service Pack 2, There is not enough space on the disk. . Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeMTA Event Category: Field Engineering Event ID: 9411 Date: 9/11/2007 Time: 10:24:13 AM User: N/A Computer: ***** Description: The MTA is terminating because the disk where MTADATA is located has less than 10MB of space, or an error occurred while trying to check for free space on the disk. If disk space is low, free up some disk space and restart the MTA. Windows 2000 Error code returned: 0 (non-zero indicates an error while checking for free space) [BASE IL TIMER 3] (16) I didnt even think to check hard drive space. I kinda naturally assumed a server like this would have enough free space. The server is running 2 80 GB physical drives in a raid 1 array. Then partitioned into 2 virtual drives (C: at 9.76 GB and D: at 64.6 GB). Is there a way to increase the partition size of C: without corrupting the volumes? If not, does anyone know of a good backup and restore utility that will restore a bootable OS (So that I dont have to reconfigure EVERYTHING by doing a fresh install)? Thanks again, Phil *edit* I will have to back up via internal sata or external USB since this machine doesnt have IEEE 1394. Last edited by TheAudionaut; 09-12-2007 at 08:29 AM. |
