Question How do I restore my registry???

I just recently removed the entry of a malicious program, "ntos.exe". from my registry. Since then I have not been able to completely logon onto my PC. The wallpaper shows up but there are no icons, no taskbar. etc. Can anyone assist me with restoring my registry. I am able to use the command prompt in the Recovery Console, I just need to know what commands I need to enter to restore my registry. I am running Windows 2K. Thanks.

Re: How do I restore my registry???

run the command "reg restore /?" without quotation marks. that command will list the available options you can do with the command "reg" and the sub-command "restore"

Those commands do not appear to be available through the Recovery Console.

Re: How do I restore my registry???

Yeah, that command is not supported in the Recovery Console. I have fixed my computer. I discovered that I could run tasks/commands through the Task Manager. I guess there was a silver lining to me effing up my registry: I learned that you can run explorer from the task manager when a registry error prevents it from loading.

Thanks ecrocombe

Re: How do I restore my registry???

Thats silly that the recovery console doesn't like the reg command, i would have thought it would have been a handy one expecially in your case.

Exellent, good to hear you got it working. Nice troubleshooting.
