Terminal Server Outlook/Publisher Error
I administer a Terminal and data server for a realty company.
The admin staff logon to a Terminal server which has group policies applied. They have no dekstop access, their start menu is redirected, they can only access their user share which is under my documents and a data share that is mapped to F:. SBS 2003 is installed with exchange active. They use MS Publisher to design graphics for the realtors, and then email the documents out through distribution lists. Now, they were able to do that until the servers were replaced a few months back. They attempt to "Send This Page as a Message" from within publisher, but when they add the distribution lists and click send a PUBLISHER error is returned saying the "Operation has Failed." If they try to attach the document in Outlook and send to ths lists, OUTLOOK returns a "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook.. I tried these same procedures under the admin account and it completes successfully so I know it has to do with group policy locking them out. I have searched gpo and cannot find anything that would relate to preventing them from sending these documents. All staff have Owner status on the distribution lists. Microsoft hasn't been much help with their KB's and Google cannot turn up much either. Please, has someone encountered this error? I need your help. The realtors are getting angry their advertisements aren't being sent out and I'm starting to look like the bad guy. Thanks, Andrew MSA Computer Ltd. Re: Terminal Server Outlook/Publisher Error
I use GPMC which is built into Small Business Server.
I've attached an HTML Prinout of the GPO Results which is zipped. If you could please examine it and let me know if anything catches your attention. |

Re: Terminal Server Outlook/Publisher Error
there was error in that to do with your folder redirection.. this might be on purpose but check it out and to see if your users can access their redirected folders.
Are the admin staff running their whole desktops on the server? is publisher and outlook ect.. installed on the server? is publisher and outlook ect.. installed on the same server running exchange? is publisher and outlook ect.. installed on the drives that the users are restricted from? what does you logon script "profiles.cmd" contain? if you havnt edited it from the default sbs script then dont worry answering that. |

Re: Terminal Server Outlook/Publisher Error
All desktops are the same running off the terminal server. Publisher and Outlook are on the terminal server which is restricted. Exchange is on the domain controller.
Yes they are installed on the drive upon which they cannot view. There are no NTFS permissions forbidding them from accessing the drive, GPO's just prevent them from being displayed and accessed. I noticed those folder redirection errors some time ago, even though the redirection works correctly with no problems reported by the user. I use vbs scripts to map the data drive F: and printers. |

Re: Terminal Server Outlook/Publisher Error
try making a group called "office" and give the group full controll over the microsoft office folder in program files folder and then make the neccessary users a member of the office group? dont know if its worth a try or not?
after having a good look over the policy i could not make out anyhting wrong.. bar the restricted drive access¿ but i dont think that is the problem. let me know how you go |

Re: Terminal Server Outlook/Publisher Error
That's what I was thinking, giving them them read and write access to the ms office folder, but I wanted a second opinion before I attempted that.
I surely will let you know how this works out. |
