Page File Usage
Hello. I am running Windows 2003 server on my webserver. I am trying to use it to host gameservers, but my servers pagefile is constantly at high numbers, like 420mb. I only have 512mb of ram on my server, and the pagefiles is using almost all of it. Is there anyway I can reduce my page file usage? I would appreciate any help greatly. Thanks
Bob |

Re: Page File Usage
Hello Bob and welcome to TSF.
The page file is actually located in your hard drive, not your RAM. It is used with Windows with what is known as Virtual Memory. Virtual Memory is used by Windows when you do not have sufficient RAM to run your programs and uses hard drive space to fill requirements. The size of that particular page file is actually not that bad in comparison to your present amount of RAM. If you wish to improve performance on your server, you should increase the amount of RAM you have. You may also wish to have your game servers separated from your webserver, as game servers can take a significant amount of system resources and the utilization of one can affect the performance of the other.
