Round Robin in DNS Win2003
Hello there,
Iīve been stuck with a problem regarding my DNS and was wondering if somebody could help me. I have a domain zone configured ( mycompany.com ) and many additional hosts (A). For example, I have mail.mycompany.com, wap.mycompany.com, server01.mycompany.com and so on. Each host pointing to a different Ip Address. I created three additional hosts with the same name but different ip addresses (ts.mycompany.com pointing to 10.10.10.1, 10.10.10.2 and 10.10.10.3). Now, when I nslookup my DNS server and query for ts.mycompany.com, I get a response for the 3 ip address. So far, so good. C:\Documents and Settings\fpohl>nslookup Server: srvbhz-ads001.mycompany.com Address: 10.10.10.41 > ts.mycompany.com Server: srvbhz-ads001.mycompany.com Address: 10.10.10.41 name = ts.mycompany.com Addresses: 10.10.10.1, 10.10.10.2, 10.10.10.3 With this configuration, if user01 tries to connect to ts.mycompany.com, it will log on to the 10.10.10.1 server. The next user, user02, will get the 10.10.10.2 ip and so on. If user01 pings the host ts.mycompany, it will always respond to the same Ip address, unlesse I do the ipconfig /flushdns to erase the DNS cache from the local machine. What I really need is to configure the ts.waybrasil.com record so that it does not cache locally (ttl = 0) so the user has to query my DNS everytime. I tried configuring the minimum TTL and TTL for this record on the SOA menu under the mycompany.com zone but it didnīt work. Anybody has created a working scenario similar to this? The reason I need this is because, if server 10.10.10.2 dies for example, I just remove it from my DNS and everybody who was logged on to it just closes the application and opens it again (Dns would then point it to another server) Thanks for the time, Fred Pohl |

Re: Round Robin in DNS Win2003
Would installing / configuring WINS help this resolve the DNS names?
Can you manually point the clients to a DNS server and have it work successfully? Where is the DHCP Server? You can configure different addresses for different subnets. Hope this helps. Let me know.
