No FDD, No Floppy conector on board, F6 wants the dam floppy!!!
Intel board has no floppy connector; I don’t have a USB floppy drive. I have a Adaptec controller with 2x 80GB drives connected to it in RAID 1. When installing Windows 2003 server I press F6 for additional drives; but it want my dam floppy and I have no floppy. Any way I can trick the USB memory stick into thinking it is a USB floppy? How do I do that?
Thanks Very Much!! |

Re: No FDD, No Floppy conector on board, F6 wants the dam floppy!!!
well there might be, but I don't know of it. But to try to help you I can tell you this. I used 2003 server, and had problems like this often. I finally switched back to XP for a bit. Now I am a 98% Linux user. If I were you I would google "USB memory stick to floppy" or something similar. Good luck, please post when you figure it out

Re: No FDD, No Floppy conector on board, F6 wants the dam floppy!!!
Just a thought but your Intel board should have an IDE connector somewhere?
I was under the impression they all did whether they have a floppy drive or not. So....................... take a standard IDE floppy drive and connect it to the ribbon cable - like the one here: http://www.nullmodem.com/Floppy.htm Next buy a power connector - like the last one on this page here: http://www.pcguide.com/ref/power/sup/partsDrive-c.html Plug everything together and just lie the floppy drive on top of or beside the server when installing (you'll need the cover off). Be careful to not allow it to touch any motherboard components and ensure the cable doesn't foul fans etc. It's not pretty, and nor is it practical, but i've had to do this many times and as a temporary measure works fine.

@ MAQ_FR
Floppy and IDE connectors are not the same. @ mydssbin Do you happen to have the model number of your Intel board? |

crazijoe
I stand corrected for the deliberate mistake seriously I was rushing thru other things, and you are quite right they are not the same, so I've corrected this as soon as I saw. I should have said: "Just a thought but your Intel board should have a floppy connector somewhere. I was under the impression they all did whether they have a floppy drive physically installed or not. So....................... take a standard IDE floppy drive and connect it to the ribbon cable - like the one here:" http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/fdd-11009-29.html my apologies for the error - it wasn't deliberate or meant to misguide anyone. as Crazijoe asks, what intel board do you have?

Re: No FDD, No Floppy conector on board, F6 wants the dam floppy!!!
Hello
I have had the same problem in the past with a few new servers not having a FDD controller. I worked my way around this by inserting the drivers into the Windows Install CD using nLite! (www.nliteos.com). By doing this i did not have to worry about pressing F6 and it picked up the RAID controllers no drama at all. Regards Edward Crocombe P.S. Make sure you insert only the os specific version of your drivers and that they are text based not PnP!! |
