Windows Time Sync Errors
For the past month+ the time on 2 servers is behind between 15-20mins every 2-3 days. They are both DNS servers running 2003. We have other servers running in the domain but their times aren't affected. Times on both machines are equal to eachother and are behind by the same amount. Each machine was bought at a different time, so the battery cannot be an issue. The errors in event viewer are:
Time Provider NtpClient: An error occurred during DNS lookup of the manually configured peer 'ntp.ucsd.edu'. NtpClient will try the DNS lookup again in 480 minutes. The error was: No such service is known. The service cannot be found in the specified name space. (0x8007277C). Windows time service is enabled on both machines. Windows firewall service is not enabled on both machines because they are running behind a cisco pix firewall, where all outbound traffic is enabled but inbound is filtered. As I stated above this problem has not always occurred until recently. Any suggestions? Andrew |

Re: Windows Time Sync Errors
Have you made sure that the Time Service on the servers are active? Does a reboot sync the time?

Re: Windows Time Sync Errors
Yes time servers are active. Reboots occur every sunday so I am unable to tell if it syncs correctly, but using cmd to tell w32tm to resync failed.
Thanks for the link though, i edited the registry values to use the navy time sync rather than windows time and it worked. I will see if they will be correct in a fea days when I return. Thanks. Andrew |
