Reinstall Win2k Pro

I have been wrestling with a drive that gives Win2k 'stop error' in kernel
encoding (see other thread.)

After trying to get it to boot on a different machine and getting the same
error, I'm hoping to get it going again with a OS reinstall.

Should the reinstall overwrite the bad data and save the content?

Ok, I'll fire it up and look for 'R" but I'm afraid that like 'repair' it'll
want that repair floppy I don't have.

I have that UltimateBootCD but don't know how to burn the folder. :-/

Thumbs Up

Shouldn't be a drama for you. Press R and you be left with 2 options for repairing, pressing C will automatically jump into Recovery Console in DOS Mode, give option of entering numeric 1 to repair WINNT Folder and type EXIT once completed.

You can only recover from emergency repair diskette ( 3 diskette ) if you have them all.

I would suggest you take option 1. Any win2k bootable disc will do the job.

Hope this short note will help you out.

How can I 'jump to Recovery Console in Dos mode' from regular Windows 2000
Pro? I've never seen it so I'd like to know.

I have the four setup floppies but in the making of them there was no indication by the routine to mark one as Emergency Repair. When installing the OS, I just feed one after another in at the screen prompts.

Can the 3rd disk be used to boot the machine then and use fdisk etc?
This all seems very obscure.

Well, last ditch yesterday was to do that to get the drive back. That failed too. I'm going to get an RMA and get a fresh drive. The warranty is good til
2010.
