Cached logins

How can you tell when logging into the domain whether or not the DC was contacted or the user logged in using cached credentials?

I don't think you can tell whether they used cached credentials but if you look at you security logs on the DC it will show when the user and computer logged into the domain.

Something I never understood ... NT 4 told you "Logging on with cached information" at logon ... Why remove this notification?
