connecting XPhome to server 2k3 share
Hope someone can help -
I've had this working before on a different setup but now i'm struggling a bit. What i'm trying to achieve is to be able to access a shared folder on Windows Server 2003 server (small Business edition). The folder has permissions and security set for everyone to access. I've tried to map the drive and use a different user/password with no luck. I know that Win Xp home cannot Join a A/D, but it can be setup so that file sharing on the Server can be accessed. - I've Done it before somehow - (Things I've done so far to try and connect to the shared folder on the server) I've changed the XPhome workgroup name as advised, to the same as the Server's domain name - I've also created a new user in the A/D with the same UN/PW as the XP home Pc. The XP home Pc can ping the server and can see the server icon in my network places, but when trying to access I'm getting a error {Server is not accessible. you may not have permission to use this network ETC:-} The server is setup for DNS / Active Directory / File server & Routing and remote access roles. 3 other computers connected to the network, all WinXP Pro's - don't have a problem connecting to the folder, and they are not domain users either. so its a Windows Home edition prob of course - My gut feeling is that this is either a firewall issue or something to do with the user logon / PW name (which i have changed and messed around with several times) I've tried using a dynamic and static I.P address on the XP machine and still no luck here. If i type the Url for the server (\\server2k3) at the run box the same error is reported. Thanks for any help here lads. W.J |
