WMI service question
Greetings,
Our server (Dell power-edge) is running under windows 2000. Recently, a back-up job stopped working due to an error in WMI repository file. In an attempt of trying to fix the problem, I tried to restart the WMI service in Computer Management. However, the WMI service shows the status of "Stopping" and never stops. So the WMI service has not stopped nor started. Funny thing is the server back-up job is running properlly again after I did this. My question is, is the WMI service important/critical for normal system operation? Is it okay if I just leave it like this? Another thing: I can't seem to access WMI Control --> Properties. I go to Computer Management --> Services/Applications --> WMI control --> Properties, and then the pop-up (with the hour-glass thing) just hangs in there stating "connecting to windows management", but never actually connects. Any advice/support would be greatly appreciated, thanks! |

This looks like it may help. However, looking at the symptoms you provided, I would ignore step one, instead setting the service to Disabled and rebooting, then continuing on to step 2. Another option is to re-apply Service Pack 4. Don't uninstall any existing updates/service packs, just download SP4 and install it. |
