Routing and Remote Access - Accessing private interface from the Internet
Hello there. I have a weird problem here and I thought I could try and ask you guys for help.
I have a computer running Windows Server 2003 (gonna call this computer Server from now on) that has two network cards. One of them is directly connected to the Internet; the other is connected to the private network. I also have a simple ADSL Router that provides another Internet access point to the private network. Both the router and the server can see each other. My server is configured in a way that its internet connection is shared (thru Routing) for the private network and can be used as a gateway. That server is pingable from the internet as well. What I wanted to do is: connections that arrive on the router's ip should be redirected thru NAT to the server. That means that we have 2 ips and that the server should be able to receive connections in both of them. But the problem is that, although the router IS correctly NAT'ing the packets to the server, the server isn't answering them. I've done some checks and the packets ARE arriving on the server, but it is ignoring them. I imagined that it would be like that because the private network card is configured in Routing and Remote Access to be "private interface connected to private network". But if I change it, people can't use it anymore as a gateway. Anyone has any ideas? I don't want anything too fancy, I just wanted everything to stay working as it is right now, but being able to make the server receive and answer connections that come on the private interface from the Internet (redirected by the router). Any ideas? Thanks for your time and for reading this. |
