Windows Server 2003 DC problems?

Hi, i have just promote my standalone Windows Server 2003 to a domain controller. But now i have encounter problems with the server.

1) Whenever i login to the server and access the Active Directory Users and Computer, i get this error Naming information cannot be located because; The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. Contact your SA to verify your domain is properly configured and is currently online.
But after sometime of trying, i manage to access the Active Directory users and Computer. Why is it so????

2) When i access the domain controller security policy using the administrator account, i get this error:
Failed to open the group policy object. You may not have appropriate rights.
Why is it so?

Anybody know what happen?

By the way, i am using VMWare workstation for the Windows Server 2003.

Do you have the DNS pointing at the Domain Controller?

Hi, currently my DNS server is the same as my domain controller, which is on the same server.

My IP address of that server is 192.168.1.1 and the preferred DNS server i put 192.168.1.1, should i put 127.0.0.1 instead?

1) Is this fisrt DC at ur network ?
if this is first DC i think it have somthing wrong with ur DC , but this is second or third DC ,u should be careful whenever u connect to fisrt DC ( the connection is not right ) .Or ur computer is slowly when apply new policies
Sometimes when u have just promote my standalone Windows Server 2003 to a domain controller ,its take a long time to get connect to fisrt DC in ur network to load everything about AD ,maybe 15' or several hours ,I have met this problem for three times
2 ) ur account have enough permission ( Domain Admin ,Enterprise admin ...)
,however maybe it have same reason with 1

" i am using VMWare workstation for the Windows Server 2003 " r u really u VMWare , it will take long times to apply policies , I think u should restart ur computer if u want manage AD or GP on new DC
Hope that can help u
