Question Baloons on the system tray.

G'day All!

I am trying to configure on my server (2003)to STOP the system tray to produce pop-ups(Baloons) for the users.

Is there a solution on this?Do i have to do this using Active directory or??

Example of pop-ups are :windows updates and others.

Could anyone help me please.

Thanks

Yuo cannot stop them all the way, but you can change how frequently they appear. These settings can be changed by editing the Group Policy.

I don't know if this will work for you but inXP you go to Control Panel/Security Center and over onthe left click on change the way Security center alerts me me and uncheck the boxes you don't want notification on.

What group policy settings are these?or where do i go about?

Its easier to implement on the server as we use active directory and these changes can effect all of the users.

Thanks

We also use active directory, we implemented a WSUS Server not to long ago. It nows serves as a patch management server for over 250 PC's. We controlled the deployment via group policy. You do not have to go out of your way as we did to implement WSUS. But you can still make the desired changes. Now I am only talking about Automatic Updates which is probably a big load for your balloons.

It depends on what you use to edit the group policy. The changes for WU can be changed by following this key:

Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Update

I am not sure how familiar you are with the group policy but there are descriptions of what each key will invoke. You may want to do your research first. Good Luck!
