Boot Issues (Win 2k)
Ok to start it off, i'l write out the story here...
I was on my computer and i started smelling something strange like something burning, i looked out the door then sort of dismissed it, few minutes later my computer turned off and i looked down at it to see it up in smoke, i immediately unplugged everything. I didn't have time to really mess with it for about 3 weeks, i figured i had gotten a power surge and my power supply had blown i was just hoping it hadn't taken anything with it. A few days ago i figured it was time i get it fixed and working again, so i took my PSU in and low and behold it was fried, so i bought a new one (400W). Note: During the downtime i had removed my RAM and Harddrive and had been using them (HD as a slave) in my parents computer. When i went to start up my computer it went through the early BIOS stuff with no problem but when it got to the windows 2000 loading bar it filled up and froze, reading "Starting Windows...". After trying it a couple times i realized something was wrong and tried booting from my win2k disk, which initially would begin booting but freeze half way through the process. I then tried booting in safe mode, with the same result, then going back to trying to boot from disk. This time when i tried to boot from disk however it gave me an error reading: An unexpected error (1073725528) occured at line 1562 in F:\nt\private\ntos\boot\setup\arcdisp.c. Press any key to continue At this point i tried tinkering a little with the harddrive jumper and my computers general cables just to see if something was just not getting connected properly, though the problem persisted. I now tried booting it with an old harddrive formatted with win98, which sorta started to boot but ended up not working (which wasn't surprising seeing as it was originally from an old machine using a pentium chip) then tried booting with my harddrive in my friends computer which didn't work either, giving a different problem which i figured was probably for the same reason. It was still giving me the same problems when i tried to boot on my computer. Earlier today i took my computer to a friends house who is good with this kind of stuff, he tried his win2k disk and it gave a similar error, so we decided it wasn't a problematic disk. He then stuck my harddrive in his computer set up as a slave and ran some disk check stuff on it which proved to get it running again once it was back in my computer. Because the harddrive was half outside the case at this point to bring it home he unplugged at and i took it separately. I got home, threw it in my machine and instead of booting windows it goes through the beginning BIOS stuff then gives me a blank screen. After a little tinkering, putting it in my parents computer and runnign check disk again on it, i'm back to the same errors and boot-freezes i was before. Any help is hugely appreciated. Computer Specs: 768 ram (1 kingston 512, 1 noname 256) Athlon XP 2000+ Asus Motherboard (ask for model if it's needed) 40 GB harddrive nVidia 6600 GT |
