explorer.exe error when previewing movie files
Hi,
I get an explorer.exe error when I click to preview (or open) movie files (both .mpegs and .avi files). It first started after I installed a vodei mp codec, which I uninstalled and this seemed to solve the error, but it's back again! I've trawled the internet for a solution, and also noticed the problem's been described on here aswell (I tried to follow a suggested solution using something called avifix, but it hasn't worked for me). Another suggestion was to make sure the latest Service Pack was installed, which it is (SP4). Other suggestions I've come across involve modifying the registry, but these seem to be for Windows XP only (I don't have the PropertyHandler folder listed in: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler) Strangely, the error only appears when I am not connected to the internet and click on a file. I can still watch files by opening them through a media player (File>Open etc) but can't d/click the file to open it directly. Can anyone help me fix this - I'm not sure if it's a critical error but it is very annoying and I'd like to know how to solve it! Thanks in advance, Keva |

Hi,
Problem fixed - I searched my computer for any files left over from the vodei codec uninstall and found several system files remaining. Moving these to the recylce bin seems to have solved the explorer.exe error I was getting. Incidentally, I would be grateful if anyone could tell me what happens to cause this explorer.exe error - it seems in my case it was caused by this vodei codec but I was wondering if it could also be linked to the actual .avi file, ie could the avi file I d/l be "bad" in some way? Thanks, Keva |
