0x000000b8 DPC STOP error

Hi, I've been scouring the internet trying to find a solution to the problem I am suffering but to no avail.

I am getting this message at what appears to be random times:

*** STOP: 0x000000B8 (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
A wait operation, attach process, or yield was attempted from a DPC Routine

I have looked through eventviewer but can't see anything that has happened just before this happens. The closest Microsoft support article I could find is http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318988 which suggests installing sp4 (already had it installed, and tried reinstalling it along with doing an auto-update) and modifying a registry key - unfortunately the key doesn't exist.
However it suggests that this error should only happen on Windows 2000 Advanced Server but I am running Windows 2000 Pro.

My system is as below:
Asus A8N-SLI, Athlon 64 3700+, Geforce 7800GT, 1.5gb ram, 2 Hard drives partioned up into several FAT32 and NTFS (there is a reason why I mention this) on Windows 2000 Pro.

I had this same problem on my previous setup - the only things that have changed completely are th mobo, processor, and graphics card.

Although I said this happens at random it does appear to happen more frequently when I am online (since I'm online fairly constantly it's hard to be sure if it has happened when I haven't been online) and quite frequently when I leave azareus seeding overnight - however it has happened even when azareus hasn't been running and I have just been online.

I never had this error when I was on dialup and I have started to think this may be a result of a 'duff' modem that came with my broadband deal - it's a very cheap modem and a pain to install and takes time to recognised itself as being connected sometimes but once connected works perfectly.

Finally as a result (or I assume as a result) of getting these BSOD errors windows now tells me that certain partitions need to be checked for consistency - however since I have had major problems with chkdsk making things far worse I skip the autocheck each startup. Oddly enough this only happens on fat32 partition so I can't tell whether the fat32 (this happened on my new hard drive as well as my old one, and in both this and my previous setup) partitions are causing the STOP error or vice versa.

Any help at all with suggestions of what I can do to find out what the problem is and fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
