Hello and Welcome to TSF

You can contact the laptop manufacturer and ask if they have restore software for your system.

Search and see if you have a i386 folder and if so, you could run winnt.exe from DOS.
However, that will not help if you don't have the product ID key code and even that doesn't help you if the laptop needs some proprietary drivers for your hardware.

open an instant of windows explore | Tools | Folder options | View

Enable (check) "Display the contents of system folders"
Enable (check) "Show hidden files and folders"
Disable (uncheck): "Hide protected operating system files"

then see if winnt.exe is in the i386...?

How about checking this:
1) how many objects are in the i396 folder, 5,398 is normal ??

2) what size is your i386 folder, 316 mb's is normal ?

If Windows 2K came with the laptop (there will be a COA sticker on the bottom), then call the manufacturer and see if you can order a new restore CD set.

That's about it. Get a Win2k CD (OEM, not retail, seeing as you have an OEM license) and you're in business.
