dual boot 98 and w2k
When I setup 98 I partioned the drived to C & D. I decided to try a dual boot between 98 and w2k. The HDD E: that I installed w2k to was a HDD that I had setting around. Things didn't go well, I suspect that the E: drive is bad.
When I boot the computer I get a prompt regarding which OS I would like to use. I chose Windows, everything boots properly, but if E:, sometimes it is, is not recognized then the second partition on the orginal HDD "D:" has lost all files and is replaced with the WINNT files. I have unplugged the cables to the second HDD with the same result. I deleted files in the boot.ini file regarding w2k and it seems to rebuild itself. How do I disable the dual boot process so that I can try again with a new second drive? Thank in advance for your advice. Bob |

eagleseye on the C drive look for the winnt.ini file. open it with edit. Two lines to look for are the selection lines for win 98 or win2K. Save the file as some thing different first that backs up the file. then change the line to not address the E: drive.
Winnnt on the c drive is the catch all for dual booting. I became fed up with Win2K and up graded to Win XP pro. I only local network so I did not really need 2K which brought a lot of problems. I dual boot and the C: drive winnt.ini is still used for start up, also any download links. Oz |

Thanks for your help, I got fed up, disconnected the E drive, format partion D: and reloaded the software that orginial was there. A Google search revealed that this isn't an uncommom problem, that is drive switching. If I try again I'll look for the winnit.ini file.
