Ad-Watch event question
Hi.
I'm using windows2000 professsional and recently have noticed upon launching Windows the following message. Warning: An attempt to alter a protected object has been detected. (Attempt to add a registry value) Root:HKEY_Local Machine Key:Software\microsoft windows\current\version\run Value:Microsoft(R)windows service manager New Data:C\WINNT\System32\27.temp Then it asks which way I wish to proceed Accept or block. I have been choosing block and then minimizing the window to keep Ad Aware active. Does anyone have any thoughts about what this means. Thanks. |

It sounds like some program is trying to edit your registry every time you boot. See if you can find out whats starting up by using msconfig from Windows XP to check your statup items. If you dont have it you can download it here.
http://www.onlinecomputertips.com/software/msconfig.exe Copy it to your Windows or System32 directory. I dont think it matters. If you arent familiar with its use check out this link. http://www.onlinecomputertips.com/tr.../msconfig.html
