converting a Dynamic Disk to Basic?
I'm trying to turn a Dynamic Disk, (the whole HD), to a Basic Disk. My only available "Action" in "disk management/all tasks"
is "Create Volume". I want to use this space as storage with partitions. It is currently listed as "unallocated".

I already removed all volumes. I have only an unalloated area and a disk claiming to be dynamic. My only shown option in Actions is "create volume".

Re: converting a Dynamic Disk to Basic?
Once you changed the basic disk to dynamic disk, it cannot be changed back to basic disk without deleting the partitions and rebuilding the disk it cannot be changed back to basic disk without deleting the partitions and rebuilding the disk. You may find if there is any partition on the disk, the "Convert to Basic Disk" button in the Disk Management tool is not available.
![]() In this way, all the data on the dynamic disk will lost. There isn't any way to convert dynamic disk directly to the basic without data loss. The most safe way should be backup or clone the dynamic disk firstly and then do a dynamic disk conversion in the Disk Management tool. How to clone or backup dynamic disk? After you have backed up all the important data on the dynamic disk, you can convert the dynamic disk freely. How to convert dynamic disk to basic without data loss?
