You don't seem to be having much luck with Ghost so why not try "xxclone" you will find the link to it in oldmn's Signature.
It is a great program and very easy to use

Well. some progress. The newly cloned disk will now let me boot up. However, I get the error code: Your system has no paging file, or paging file is too small. As a result, I can't get past my login.
Is this the result of files not copied? Can this be recovered? At least Win2K blue screen arrived. Getting closer.

Hi Kodi,
I installed XXCLONE and copied my HD. During the process, I got the message: No active partition found in target disk. Initialize MBR via repair. (I created the partition as a bootable "primary" partition.) The POST says: Now booting from OS. However, the system goes to a black screen with: "PRESS A KEY TO REBOOT". So, how can I get around this?

Question would the target drive happen to be an SATA and the source an ATA/IDE?
What motherboard are you using?

New results!
I used XXCLONE in "FULL BACKUP" mode and followed that with "REPAIR". Now the new HD boots. It offers my two OS options on startup: CLONED OS and WIN9X. I chose the former. MY drives are all ATA133. Motherboard is ASUS PT533 (C?), with 533 MHZ FSB. CPU is Pentium4, 2.4 GHZ with 512GB 800MHZ RIMM. OS WIN2K Pro. Final configuration will have 4 HDs with a Terabyte+. 600 GB will be a striped array.

Yes. it does!
XXCLONE created a working clone where GHOST and LIFGUARD did not. I can now boot from my clones. Again, what does it mean that I have two OS options on start up? Where did that come from? It wasn't on the original HD. Thank you to everyone who took tha time to share your suggestions on this. I tried all of the advice. For me, on my system, this works. By the way, what does XXCLONE cost after the testdrive ends?

I've created several clones of my original HD. All work fine. However, can someone explain to me why the original disk from which these clones were made will no longer boot my PC?
Also, Why do the clones offer me 2 OS choices on bootup? One is called "XXCLONE Windows (cloned volume)", and the other, "WIN9X".

some unexpected behavior
Oops! Something new.
Now that I've added a 2nd data HD which used to work fine, I get some new diagnostic during start-up which is just running my screen with "correcting" and "checking" operations. Is this normal behavior?

XXClone
I took Olman's advice and tried XXClone. I found that it did the job for me. However, It raised some questions in my mind. I posted the following message on the XXClone Google Forum. So far, no one has responded.
Any thoughts? __________________________________________________ "Clone"? (RE: cloning my HD) I tried 2 other utilities when attempting to create a bootable clone of my OS, (Norton Ghost and WD Lifeguard Tools). Neither would give me a workable result. XXclone did the job with a single try. However, I'd like some clarification about what a cloned partition actually is. My "new" OS partition does start my computer, but some things have changed. The "XXClone" name appears next to my copied OS on start-up. There is also a "Win9.X" option, (inactive), that didn't used to be there. Upon first starting from my new HD, XXClone opens and congratulates me for successfully using their product. As these didn't appear in my original boot partition, how is this a true "clone"? I made several bootable clones as I removed multiple HDs from my system. One would not work. One worked for a day, then reported corrupted files. One remains in my active computer, intended for use as an alternate boot section should I haver a failure of the Primary boot partition. So, here are some of my concerns: Is a clone reliable? I seem to recall "Dolly the Sheep", (the first biological clone), running into health problems. Every science fiction story I ever read had problems when a society of human clones ran into later generations with defective DNA. I am building an elaborate computer system based upon a cloned OS. Am I going to have trouble "down the road"? When I do backups of my OS, then use those backups to rebuild damaged disks, I will be making clones of clones. Are the long term effects of this process known? And, what else has been added to my copied partitions that I don't know about?
