I have a laptop that uses Windows 2000 Professional. My internet explorer is not working properly. It says "Cannot Find Server" and at the bottom is says "WINNT\system32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm" and every once in a while when I type in an address to go to it automatically goes to this address "http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie5/download/ieupdate.html" before saying it cannot find server. I am not that great with computers and getting really frustrated because I just bought it.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks Much!!! P.S. I am sorry if this is the wrong forum to put it in. I just wasn't sure. |

welcome to tsf
few things first try Run the System File Checker --- put in your windows disk Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in: sfc /scannow This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. Run the System File Checker Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in: sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd. __________________then ...run cleanup, uncheck clean temporary files..{you might have files in there you need, otherwise check it ] then run adaware-se--housecall and or ewido from the links below perhaps download these from a working machine when your confident you have a clean machine, update windows and internet exporer from microsoft.com post back Last edited by whodat; 10-23-2005 at 07:06 AM. |

It will not let me navigate anywhere. When it first happened I could go to my homepage but now it won't even let me do that. I also don't have the CD that came with it, I never got it when I bought it.

If the yellow conflict symbol is a yellow circle with an exclamation mark in the middle then yes there is one. It is next to something that says "Built-in Infrared Device".

i would remove it from your device manager
right click on the conflict, and either disable or remove it. with your computer came a disk that should have any drivers tha are needed to make your motherboard function. if your not using the wireless, it probably is causing grief. you need to also make sure your system is clean...spyware and viruses. post back |

Your message states a dns error. Open a Dos prompt (go to start, click on Run, type CMD and hit enter). Type ping yahoo.com
Do you have any loss? Now try ping 216.109.112.135 If you can ping by IP address, but not by URL, then it is definitely a dns problem. Type ipconfig /all and post back what it says. |
