msn messenger problems

i have msn messnger 7.0, Lately I have been having problems with the audio. I used to be able to chat through the messenger audio, and all of a sudden it stops working. I can hear the other person but they cannot hear me.Also, there is an annoying delay/echo on it. I scanned the pc with norton but no viruses were found, and I haven't been able to pinpoint the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

First things first. Does your mic work in windows? You can check by going to start/all programs/accessories/entertainment/ sound recorder. Make sure that your mic is not muted on the mic itself, and in windows, and make sure it is properly connected to the correct port.
