Double HKCU Entries: @ run and @ run-

At "hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\ currentversion\run", there are two programs listed that also appear at "hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\windows\ currentversion\run-"

Both programs are interrelated and deal with VoIP; I prefer for these programs NOT to load at boot up.

What is the correct way to proceed?

Somewhere on the VoIP menu/dialogue box should be a field to set no auto start.

Alternatively, you can use 'rem' in a registry string to stop it from executing.
Example:
"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
rem "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"

the 'rem' stops iTunesHelper.exe from running.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
What is listed in the 'run-' key? Is it a duplication of 'run'?

Check to see what is starting in...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and any other Run... keys.

Stu_computer,
Thanks for your help.

You asked, "what's in the run- key?" Answer:
1. (Default)
2. FreeRAM XP
3. Mozilla Quick Launch
4. SkypeMate

NOTE: When I first started this thread, run- also had "Skype"; to avoid problems, I used "Startup Cop" to enable both Skype and SkypeMate at Startup.

You also asked, "is it a duplication of 'run'?" Anwer: No.
run contains:
1. (Default)
2. Skype
3. SkypeMate
4. TClockEx

At HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run, there are seven entries, none of which are Skype or SkypeMate.

To look for other keys containing "\run", I ran a search with "Registry Detective".
Curiously, among the 21 hits, "…\CurrentVersion\Run-" appeared , but NOT …\CurrentVersion\Run!

There's your answer. When you use Startup Cop to disable a value it moves that value to a key of the same name appended with a minus (a Win98 disable registry key technique), so the key is ignored but its contents can be enabled again simply by moving them back into the active key.

--------------------------------------------------------
The Skype installer gives an option to auto start, but it apparently isn't available as a preference setting after it's installed.

Thanks again Stu_computer,

You're a bloody magician; I Googled the Internet and found nothing on "run-".
