usb2 help

i have a compaq nx9110 laptop...during recent travels the hard drive got trashed. had to reinstall everything, left original disks back in oz. as a result i have not been able to get my usb ports (which are supposed to be usb2) to act as usb2. i have the latest XP upgrades...not sure what to do next...any help much appreciated, not the tech'iest of users so basics much appreciated.

there is only drivers for network card. the hp help desk keep telling me to update XP...which i have already done. are there drivers i could download from another site or is there a way to initiate with xp pro disk?

Use EVEREST Home Edition to find out the maker of your Chipset.

Once you've found this out you can normally go the manufacturers website and download the necessary drivers and such like from there.
