boot.ini trouble
Hi guys Hiatus here, newbie to the board but also Noob to Troubleshooting.
Recently I had to reboot my laptop. Long story short, to fix a NTLDR problem. I copied the new NTLDR and NTdetect to my hardrive. But I accidently, copied the new boot.ini file and replaced the original boot.ini file that was already on my laptop. Now everytime I start my laptop, I'm prompted to choose which OS (W2k Pro)I want to start, before it goes through the normal start up session to open up Windows. My question is what can I do to fix this problem. Can I somehow replace my boot.ini file or can I edit it? I didn't have a original W2K boot disk, so I had to make a boot.ini file and copy the NTDLR files off the net, if it helps here is the boot file I created. [boot loader] timeout=20 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [OPERATING SYSTEMS] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional"/fastdetect any respose would be so helpful, I would truly apreciate any feedback. -Hiatus |

Right click My Computer/ Properties/ Advanced(tab)/ Startup and Recovery
Default operating system If the boot menu's second choice is your working OS: change this to second item. Restart computer to verify your working OS is now listed first in boot menu. If the boot menu's first choice is your working OS: remove checkmark from Display list of operating systems...seconds.

Stu_computer, thanks for the info. I feel so stupid,
when writing up the boot file, I forgot re-adjust my boot loader time back to "0" after I initally rebooted my computer. But, I still did repair and fix the problem by following your steps and changing my "show boot loader- OS menu" to the deault of 0 seconds. Thanks. you guys are awesome. |
