Question IE service pack 1/ctrl-alt-del/start-up problem-HELP!!!

Being rather geeky, I am slightly embarrassed to ask for help[or maybe thats just the male hormones], but after spending two days googling, tinkering, searching forums, working with my machine I am STUMPED!

ISSUE

So heres whats going on.

Three days ago I recieved a copy of AutoCad to install on my computer. At that point in time I had IE 5.something.something installed and had never bothered to update cus I swear by firefox. But I was prompted during the autocad installation that it would not install/run unless I had IE 6 downloaded to my computer. Odd I thought, but I can handle it- its only IE after all, right? Well, maybe not. I downloaded the update from microsoft's site which I thought was legit, proceded with the setup wizard- halfway through it said that it needs restarting in order to finish the setup. Yet again I thought 'Not a big deal, pretty standard operating procedure' and restarted my computer. The Biosk ran fine, windows booted up fine, it gave me the log-on screen fine. I entered in 'Administrator' as the logon because thats where I was installing it to and typed in my password just like always.

Now this is where stuff started to get weird on me. It showed my my desktop image (my tartan, farquharson) and a prompt box in the upper left hand corner of the screen saying something like 'Interent Setup" with three things that if I remember right were 'Interenet Explorer' 'Interenet utilities' 'Other Interenet' or something like that in it, and arrow pointing to the top one as if it was setting it up and my mouse had the hour glass over it. And it just sat there...... and sat there..... and sat there. I let it sit for a while wondering if it was just a slow set up, but when an hour had gone by and it hadn't changed ONE bit, I restarted my computer. Re-logged on- same dealio. Restarted and re-logged on, same thing. Restarted re-logged, this the third time, just the desktop image, not the prompt box. Odd I thought. Let it sit for a while to see if it woudl fix anything, but nope, nada.

Let it sit over night because I was getting frustrated and had other engagements I had to deal with.

Next day, got on, tried working on it.

Same thing happened, sit I tried hitting ctrl-shift-esc to get to task manager. I was then given the prompt 'Task Manger has been disabled by your administrator' which is a ton of B*llsh*t because I am the admin, and I never EVER disabled it. I hardly knew how even. How'd this happen?

So I restart, let the bios load, and then hit F8 during the boot to get the boot menu. I select 'safe mode'. Long story short, it doesn't change anything. Restart again, go through all the safe modes- nothing. Being aggrivated, I started selecting things that I only half know how they work. 'Directory Services Restore Mode' was successfull at logging me in.

I tried un-disabling task manager through MMC. Works right after I do it, but as soon as I restart, no longer works.

What kinda virus did I get? Is Bill Gates taking otu his anger on me? HELP!!!

Sorry of the above was confusing- but I'll do anything to fix my computer. Thanks in advance guys

My System

Ok ... Using FireFox, get a copy of IERADICATOR and the IE6 Setup.

Once you have both, run the IE Eradicator, reboot when it tells you, then run it again. After the second reboot, kick off the IE6 Setup.

I tried what you said.

IEradicator failed to remove all versions of IE. IE five still remained. Because that failed to get removed, I didn't try re setting up six. IT also did not fix my cntrl+alt+del problem or anything else. It did however some how delete my cd player/audio driver.

Oh well, I think I might just have to back up and reinstall- though currently I have nothing to back up onto :-( And re-installing sucks cus I don't have SATA

Thanks anyways
