Two differrent OS on same computer?

Is it possible to install windows 2000 on a computer that came with Linspire4.5? AMD chip 2.3ghz 512 ram 40g hd. I was told to create new partition to install windows. How is that done? I tried installing from the start up disks, but when I finally insert the win2000disk, it rejects it and boots to linspar. Is there a way to format the drive? Help Please
Thanks Gus

Yes it will run windows.

First thing, let's establish what it is you would like done with this computer.

1. I want to keep Linspire and add windows.

2. I just want windows.

Hi, Gus!

It's strange...
Windows Installer must boot from your CD. And during this installation you can re-partition your drive as you want.

I suppose several reasons can cause your problem:

1) Check out your BIOS settings. Is there an option "Boot from CD" available at all?

2) Check out your CD. Isn't it damaged?

3) Check out your CD-ROM. Is it switched on(I mean data cable) ?

Start the computer, put the W2K CD in the drive, remove floppy disk and restart the computer.

Watch the screen for a message 'boot from CD...' and press a key, if displays some similar option then select the CD option. If it boots directly into Linspire then the CDdrive is either not in the boot sequence or the hd is listed to boot before CD. In this case you will have to go into the bios and change the boot order..

When you get to the windows setup you will have to delete all partitions and let windows make a new partition using whole drive. It will give you a choice of FAT32 (old file format compatible with Win9x and above, and dos) or NTFS (new file format WinNT/2000/xp) it's up to you which you choose, NTFS is better.

Then W2K will begin installing the os, have your product key handy for when it asks for it.
