Main Bios Might be Screwed
ok, i hav Unreal Tournanment and when i play, no matter what it ends up locking up no matter what, so i went online and looked for an answer and som1 said that itsa a voltage error because the game is really bad on prossesors, so i went into my bios and looked, but couldn't find out how 2 change the voltage, and som1 else said that also the problem might be fixed if the speed of the apg is lowered, couldn't find that either so i tryed puting on the best performance default setup and then when i restarted my comp, it ran very slowly, so i went back into the bios and changed the bios back to defaults and now when i try 2 start it, does does nothing at all, the fans and the cd-rom and what not com on... but thats about it... and no matter what i do it never does anything other than that, is there anything at all i can ever do about it? any help at all would be greatly appreciated! thx.

I had a problem a while back where I would play a few of my 3d games and they were locking up the whole system at radom times, but only when I was playing them. I tried turning off my overclocking option that came with my ati card. Try turning overclocking off if you have it on. Or if you want, you can always format and reinstall everything from scratch :)

Unplug the computer, take the side panel off, inside you will see the mainboard (mb). On the mb is a backup battery (the flat silver disk), remove the battery and let the computer set for an hour.
This will cause the mainboard to lose its bios settings. (cmos, it is a type of memory used for storing bios settings, and the battery is used to keep the cmos refreshed when main power is turned off). Put the battery back in to it's holder. Replace side cover, plug computer in and start it. When it starts up it will give notice that it lost bios settings and you can go into bios to set them back with the defaults or optimum selection. .

ok, well i got the battery out (had 2 use tweezers lol) and i left it out for about 2 hours and then put it back in, but that had no effect, it still does the same thing, but this time i noticed a beeping noise that keeps going and going, i cant really describe it but its definetly not a normal beep lol. is there somthing else i cud do? because doing the cmos clear and the battery take out, didn't help. i dont know maybe i did somthing wrong, it says in my manual to just put the jumper from 1-2 pins to 2-3 while its off and then put it back to 1-2 to clear the cmos and then turn on the comp, but that didn't have any effect. lol im really not liking this, i really dont want 2 have 2 take it back to a repair shop and spend another $300 for problems i never noticed b4 i took it there. i just hope som1 out there can help me! all ur guyses help is awesome thank u so much, if i get my comp back and working ill definetly donate to this site, thx

errrr, that might be a prob, my comp is custom built and about 3 years old lol, been a while since i knew everything by heart. a friend of mine that helped me build the comp 3 years ago said a lil while ago that my power supply might be going out. could that of been what happened here? if so, maybe i shud try getting a new cover and power supply? hmmmm.... yeah the only way i could know all the specs of my comp would be if i could get it working again lol. well i might try buying a new power supply and see if thats what it is, perhaps when i set it to best performance defaults it changed the voltage on the power supply which was already going out which made it really screw up and die lol... just a feeble mind brain storming stuff thats probably irrelivent. if u think i shud try this or somthing else please let me know. thx everyone

If your ps was suspect before this happend then it's possible it has degraded to the point that it can't handle the load demand anymore.
Make sure the ps is set for the propper voltage, as some have a little selector switch for 115/230Volts. Next, unplug it first, disconnect the drives. Have a look to make sure any PCI/AGP cards are properly in the socket. Plug it in and start it. Did it post this time? |
