pointer goes "dead"

While using my computer my pointer arrow goes dead when I click. I have to ctrl/alt/delete, clk task mgr (twice, first click is dead) then close out of task mgr. & everything is then OK.

This happens every 4 to five minutes, depending on how often
I'm clicking the mouse.

What is happening?

I'd start by trying a different mouse.

I've tried that. It's not the mouse.
