NTLDR missing
This is the Dell Dimension V400 mobo AR440BX, from previous posts.
2 hard drives show:NTLDR MISSING and operating system not found, on boot attempt. I have WIN98 on this laptop as far as to create a boot disk from (missing some CAB files). I need advice on the procedure to get into NT. Edit the boot sequence or mbr.? Thanks Mark Last edited by Mark; 06-21-2003 at 01:55 PM. |

Hi Mark,
There is no difference in type of disk between a standard disk and a DOS bootable disk except for the fact that a DOS disk will have command.com, msdos.sys, and a couple of other basic system files on it. To make a bootable disk, put in a floppy and right click on A:\ when in My Computer. From there, click format and choose the radio button for "Copy system files only". After you hit start and it finishes, you will have a floppy to boot from. |

One minor problem is that he's talking about NT, so he can't make a DOS bootable disk that way. :)
However, Bootdisk had plenty of downloadable boot images to solve this problem. :) |
