Scenario:
You have a windows 2000 domain that covers multiple timezones around the world. User administration is carried out be a team in the one timezone using remote terminal services running on a machine in another timezone. A request is submitted, asking for a time restriction to be applies to a user account that is used in a timezone that is different from both above. Assumptions: Mixed NT4 & W2K Domain. User accounts are W2K. Resources are NT4 UTC is Universal time Co-ordinated Active directory (AD) Forest has time synchronised from a Central Time source based on UTC. Questions: - What time does windows 2000 AD store the restriction in? - Is it stored in the system as UTC time? - Is it stored based on the timezone of the client machine that access the AD and modified the User Account? - When the user authenticates in a different timezone, how is this restriction applied; - Is it adjusted for the timezone of the authenticating Domain controller? - Is it adjusted for the timezone of the resource being connected to? What if the resources span more than one timezones? - Is it adjusted for the timezone of the client machine? What if the client is a Terminal server? -What effect does daylight saving time have? Any insights into the working of timezones with Windows 2000 would be a plus |
