I believe the COMPAQ IPAQ is a handheld, right?

Pocket PC?

Desktop

The IPAQ is a desktop with only USB ports.....no CD/floppy drive. It was a workstation on a network.

My System

You will probably need to get a USB optical drive.

I have a usb backpack cd drive

I think that i will have problems getting it to boot to a cd drive. I'm afraid to try because i don't want to crash in the middle of the install.

My System

Check the BIOS. Most systems will have USB as an option in the boot sequence.

There may be a way to install via a network. You may want to look into this.

this is a laptop right? is the hard drive big enough to store all of the files for windows setup? slave the drive to another computer and copy the cd to the hard drive and run the setup.. i've never tried that for anything other than windows 95/98/me but it seems like there should be some way to do that. If it's a laptop you can get a $5 device to convert the connectors for laptop to pc.

I believe you mean the IPAQ desktop workstation. Why didn't I think of this before. Take out the HD of the IPAQ. Also, take out the HD of another desktop with a CD Drive. Install the OS on the desktop with a CD Drive. When install is done, DO NOT ACTIVATE WINDOWS, place back into IPAQ and replace the other drive.

Hope it helps.

Do Not Activate Windows is an XP Thing only. Win XP asks you to "activate" your copy, thus you can only use it on one PC. If you activated on the PC with the CD Drive, when you put the HD in the ipaq, things would not work.
