Defragmentation

Do you defrag your servers, and how often? Sheduled or do you have it running in backround?

I have it on a scheduled to run every day. Once in a while, I run it on startup so the files are not open when it's running.

Doesn't it tell you it's not necessary to defrag after analysing. Mine says that if I've done it recently. Daily seems a bit overkill to me. [ but what do I know????]

Everyday is way overkill for defragging. Once a week would be the min time I'd suggest, once a month would probably cover most people.

I use Buzzsaw. It defrags in the background, when the system is idle, so it does not use resources that you are needing.

I have used it for over a year without any difficulties.

I don'thave the URL handy, but you can Google it.

I have to agree....with modern OS's, processors and ram I can easily go once a month....I used to defrag once a week, but that was with 98se (with a PIII 1 GHz) where optimal hardware config was a definite must....

I think it would depend on what you use your comp at home but for servers after reading this acticle it sold me on doing it on a weekly if not daily basis.

"Is Daily Defragmentation Needed in Today’s Environment?"
