I use Buzzsaw. It defrags in the background, when the system is idle, so it does not use resources that you are needing.
I have used it for over a year without any difficulties. I don'thave the URL handy, but you can Google it. |

I think it would depend on what you use your comp at home but for servers after reading this acticle it sold me on doing it on a weekly if not daily basis.
