Question Installing Programs

I just installed Win2K and have not been able to find things that I loved in Win 98.

When I start to install a new program it always says to close all programs which are running. I always did that thru Control-Alt-Delete and END TASK, everything except Systray and Explorer. However when I try that in Windows 2K under processes it tells me most of the time that I can not shut down a process. How do I shutdown open programs before installing?

Thanks, Linda

You don't need to be quite that paranoid with W2K. I don't close anything that's running as a rule, and I've never had an issue in several years of use of W2K and XP. Just close major applications and any AV you're running before kicking off an install.

In W2K if you put the cursor on the task bar and right click, and open "task manager" there you can deal with any process that is running. It's helpful if an app locks for some reason also.
