HDD not recognized

Hi, douglas598 here. I have a SATA Maxtor as my primary drive, I added a WD 40 gig on the primary IDE connector. The WD 40gig can only be seen in the device manager list. How can I get to show up in "My Computer"? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

the secondary HDD will need to be set to Master as well. and then you will need to check to see if the HDD are user detected or AUTO detected in BIOS

Check Norin's steps first ...

then ...

Win 2000
Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the left you'll see "Disk Manager". This is where you can partition and format your drives. The left pane (bottom part) shows the installed devices and their status, as well as a graphic of the partitions. Your new drive will likely have no partitions. Right click on it, select create, choose the type (primary or extended), and set the size. Now you'll see a partition exists, but needs to be formatted. Right click on the new partition, select format, choose the type (I would go with NTFS, leaving all other choices at their defaults), and let it format.

WinNT
There is no Computer Manager in NT. Instead, go to Start->Programs->Administrative Tools (Common)->Disk Administrator.

The rest is pretty much the same as the procedure for Win 2000.

I followed norin's advice and set the secondary to Master and it is auto detected. Then followed Chevy's advice and boom! I'm all set. I really appreciate the help. This is the first tech support forum I've joined and the respone time was great. Thanks again norin and Chevy.
