Verbatim USB PEn Drive S/W Problem
I am running W2K SP4 with latest updates.
I tried to install a 512 MB Verbatin pen drive. The PC recognized the drive with no problem. I then tried installing the prn drive s/w for security access (Store n Go Manager). During the install, the PC blue screeened with a KMODE error with UStork.sys. This also occurred in Safe Mode. I then uninstalled some old Iomega drivers and s/e and Logitech mouse drivers. The s/w did install this time but with the following error: "ImIupDrvForPnPDev error, error code : Y_2" The s/w actually works - but: persistently the OS shows a "Found New Hardware" pop-up and the "Install New Hardware" wizard runs. This occurs continuously every few seconds. I have searched the MS KB, Google, and Verbatim for this error msg and parts of the msg but have found nothing. Anyone have an idea? Thanks. |

FWIW, I'd lose the security access software, that gave me fits with the Lexar FLASH drive I have. Try uninstalling the software and just using it like a standard FLASH drive.
You may also have to do the USB rain-dance to clean out any traces of incorrect settings. Unplug ALL USB devices. Open Device Manager. View, Show Hidden Devices. Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers. Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one. If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well. When this is done, reboot TWICE. Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.
