Question virtual memory is low...??????

hi, i hope someone can help me. I keep getting this popup that says

Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of your virtual memory paging file. During this process, memory requests for some applications may be denied. For more Information, see help.

well, i went to help, and i still don't know what to do.

thank you very much

Hello sailorvenus

If you have your Page File set to allow Windows to change the virual memory size on-the-fly, AND your hard disk is full or very fragmented, then the page file might not be able to change fast enough to keep up with Windows, which gives you the Virtual memory too low error. Try defragmenting the hard drive.
You could also increase your VM setting and purchase more RAM for your system. How much does your system have?

when i did the analyze first before defragment this came up...
says dos not need defragmenting.
volume size =14,576MB
cluster size =8MB
used space=1,928MB
free space=12,648MB
percent free space =86%

does this by any chance answer your question about how much ram my system has? cause i have no idea how much it has...sorry

now when you say that i can increase my VM setting, what should i increase it too?

thanks for helping me

o.k. i found it. i have 130,612KB Ram. (is that good?)

i also looked at the virtual memory in the advance tab and it says that the total paging filesize for all drives is 192MB.
space available is 12,830MB
initial size(MB) is 192
Maximum(MB) is 384

OS: Click "My System" to view details

My System

if it's reading as 130, you basically have 128 megs ram installed.

now, this is a low amount of ram, but for most applications, this should be sufficient, but slow.

as far as the 192-384 meg page file, this is probably the problem.

there should be no maximum, or, the maximum should at least be set closer to 1024 megs.

i would set the minimum to 192, and the max to 1024.

this should allow the computer to create a large enough page file.

for what it's worth, 128 meg sticks of ram are cheap, a second one might be a decent plan.
(you can usually find them used for 10$)
