Shared drives

I am on a network of about 12 pc's mostly nt4 but with some 98.
We have had a virus and in investigating, I have become aware that having whole drives shared is a vulnerability. (We should just share the necessary folders, not the whole drive)

Each time I unshare both c: and d: on my machine, when I reboot they are shared again.

How can I permanently remove the share?

Thanks
