Starting over

Basically, my problem is i want to format my hard drive and start over fresh with a new operating system. I currently have Windows ME....ugh. Anyway, i would like to format and do a fresh install of Windows 2000 pro in it's own partition, the only problem being i've never done any of the above and i need a bit of support in this matter. All help appreciated.

The Win2K install CD has all the capabilities you need. You just boot to the CD, follow the instructions and you can partition, format, and install the OS. No other disks are needed.

I can't find a way to format my c: drive. It really shouldn't be this hard... But i guess i'm just slow that way. Anyway, what's an easy way to wipe it out, i can't find anything in the setup of win2000 that allows me to format.

The easiest way is with the Win2K install CD but you could also download the hard drive manufacturers utilities program and zero fill the drive.

Use a win95 or 98 floppy boot disc. Restart with the boot disc. The machine will start in the dos mode. At the "A" prompt type A:/fdisk" then press enter. Use the menu and delete the HD. After the HD is deleted, shut it down and put in the W2K first boot disc. Restart and the machine will begin the install. It will format the HD at this point. If you have a large HD you can use the install disc that came with the drive to format the drive between the boot and W2K install disc. This saves some time as it is faster with the HD disc.
