CD-ROM/Floppy disk problems, Win2000 Pro

When trying to access either floppy disk or CD-Rom I get Disk in drive not formatted. If I reboot in safe mode both work fine.

OS Win2000 pro, I removed and reinstalled drivers in an attempt to correct the problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You may disregard and/or remove my query, looks as if I must reinstall Win2000 Pro. MS and computer manufacturer do not have a clue either.
