Internet Security on Windows 2000 Pro?
One of my computers is a Pentium II with 192 MB of RAM. It still runs well and is serving a purpose in my home. The last version of Windows that seems to run ok on this system is Windows 2000 Pro. I am wondering whether there is still free Internet Security software suitable for Win 2000 pro available? If not I will probably convert this system into Linux. Is anyone out there still using machines of this vintage and do you connect them to the Internet or not?

Re: Internet Security on Windows 2000 Pro?
you should be able to go online with it if you choose to but it will be exceptionally slow. I know this because one of my systems is similar. Try AVG free ver 8.5 for antivirus,ZoneAlarm ver 7.0.483.0
free firewall (i believe this is correct version number) and there is any number of free antispyware programs available (lavasoft Ad-Aware, SpyBot S&D, SUPERAntiSpyware) to mention a few. Also make sure you get all Windows updates before you download anything else. Last edited by chris96298; 10-26-2009 at 12:48 AM. Reason: add info |
