I HATE THE BLUE SCREEN.
Yet another Windows 2000 Professional user who's gotten the "all-of-the-sudden Blue screen/inaccessible boot device" issue. Here's what I know: -computer was on YouTube, paused on a song (and froze) -when restarting the computer, got "blue screen" -"blue screen" always pops up after the "Starting Up" progress bar gets about halfway across -computer was "put together" and given to me by a friend, so I have no factory disk or any such thing -computer has always tried to boot from the CD-ROM first, says "Failure," but then has always kept right on going with no problem in the past (don't know if that's important or not) -went to another site like this one and saw that someone solved their problem by downloading files onto four separate floppy disks; I did that, had the floppy in when booting the computer, only to have the computer tell me "invalid system disk; please remove and press any key." Is there ANYTHING I can do? (Windows 2000 Pro...Service Pack 4) |

Re: Blue....screen!!!
Hello!
As the computer boots up, before the progress bar, there will a blank screen with the cursor in the top left corner. When you see that, hit the F8 key 2 or 3 times. This should bring you to a screen with a few options on it. Look for the option of "Last Know Good" and select it. This should bring the computer to a normal login screen. If not, let me know. there are a couple of the possibilities. Once you log in, BEFORE you do anything else, update your anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-trojan software and run a complete scan of the system. It sounds like the computer became infected. Let me know if this took care of the issue Last edited by MrNutsy; 09-19-2009 at 08:47 PM. |

Re: Blue....screen!!!
Thanks for responding, MrNutsy; I really appreciate it.
I've actually tried the "Last Known Good Configuration" quite a few times prior to my initial post (as well as the several "Safe Mode" options), so let me know what your next suggestion might be. You fix this computer, and I'm gonna Bless you (one way or another). LOL I'm expecting to have to get the computer serviced, so if you save me money, it's surely gonna be to your benefit. :) Thanks again, Buddy. Be Blessed... |
