How to change and save password to login session automatically?

I have a desktop with Win2000Pro. I used to be able to login Windows session automatically, with the user id and password filling automatically and the computer being ready to run.

For an unknown reason yesterday the somputer asked me to log in, the username was already inserted but I need to insert the password. I hadn't used it for 10 years or so but luckily I remembered it last night and was able to proceed.
MyWin2000Pro is French so the keyboard is azerty for the login so I need to find the right keys. It reverts to qwerty once I log in. Is there is a way to change the password and/or save it so the computer can start up as before?

Thank you very much.

Welcome to TSF!

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Users and Passwords

Uncheck the box for Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.
Click Apply, you'll be prompted to enter the User name and Password of the account you want to automatically log on.

If the box is already unchecked, check it, click Apply, then follow the above.
