win2000 erc

how can I get the error recovery console from my installation disc to the hard drive. i have used the command f:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons which brings up a box full of switches, after which nothing happens.

f:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons

It should work as long as there is only the one space between .exe and the / and no other spaces. /cmd cons won't work for example.
If it's bringing up the Windows Help window with the list of switches, it's saying it doesn't understand the switch.

Only thing I can think of is if you have an OEM disk and they removed the option to install the Recovery Console.

You might be able to copy the i386 folder from the disk to your hard drive then integrate Windows 2000 SP 4 into those files, that might restore that feature. All the files that contain the word cmdcons are updated by SP4 (other than help or readme files).

If the W2KSP4_EN.EXE file is in C: and the i386 folder is in C:\Win2KCD\i386 you'd type this command at a command prompt:
C:\W2KSP4_EN.EXE -s:C:\Win2KCD

Note that you specify the parent folder of the i386 folder, not the i386 folder itself.
