[SOLVED] win2k after HD replacement
I bought a used machine. 1400/256/100/1.5
815 chipset family, mem comtroller 82815EG, I/O Controller 82801BA(ICH2) The HD blew up after I left it on and unused all day. So I got another drive and put it on the machine. The seller would't give me a copy of the software unless I paid another 60bucks for them to load it, so I loaded win98 to format it. After I did so the machine seems to be missing drivers for the mother board. I now have win2k on it with the same issue. The OS when I purchased was win2kpro. I can only get 16 colors on display , I cannot get it to detect the modem even with modem specific software disc , when I IPconfig I get all zeros .In case it matters even with the chipset numbers the Intel chip on the board that I can read is FW82801BA, the processor is Celeron 1400 SL64V, RK80530RY017256 (BX80530F1400256) I've messaged Vinnie4 who seems to have had the same driver issue and solved it. I too cannot distinguish which drivers to load as there seems to be a list of identifying numbers on Intel's site for the 815 chipset that I do not have. I did load one set and it black screened me after restart. I had to run Dban and reloaded win2k OS this morning. I posted all this in case I am missing something else that the symptoms I posted might indicate. I am online with a different computer. If I could get online with it i'd just have the Intel site scan it. I need to make this thing run right as I have to give it away in trade for work that was already done. Thanks Last edited by chris47; 07-03-2009 at 08:11 AM. |

Re: win2k after HD replacement
Is this a hp pc? if so go to there website, download and install
the chipset and other onboard drivers.. You can also go to intels website and get the drivers....all you need to know is the chipset family # follow the prompts...

Re: win2k after HD replacement
Thank you for the reply.
I did both before I ever posted. It isn't as straight forward as you say. I don't know the things you do, I couldn't decipher which ones to pick on eithert site. I just ran Everest and to further dilineate, it is a Intel i815E chipset. I haven't learned how to use it or the information yet but I didn't see anything to indicate any hardware was defective, which is what I have begun to suspect as the other possibility. I'll look again but I have downloaded drivers from both sites and they either did nothing or the one pair gave me black screen. Last edited by chris47; 07-03-2009 at 02:17 PM. |

Re: win2k after HD replacement
Yes, I used all except #4 I think. And it was one of the zip files that gave me a black screen.
If any of them worked I didn't notice and I still have the same problems. Last edited by chris47; 07-03-2009 at 02:47 PM. |

Re: win2k after HD replacement
I've run Everest and I'm not sure what all of the information is but quite a few of the drivers are marked as stopped in system drivers. There is a list of IPxxx files, 3 out of 4 of them are stopped, as well as file ipsraidn being stopped.
Is this something I can change? and is it what is blocking me from getting online with my ethernet cable? I'm pretty sure if I got online I could solve the whole issue with software by going to Intel or HP. As it is I am downloading to a flash drive and transferring The list as in Everest Ultimate Edition (trial version) under System Drivers; File Version ipfltdrv.sys 5.0.2168.1 stopped ipinip.sys 5.0.2168.1 stopped ipnat.sys 5.0.2195.6616 stopped ipsec.sys 5.0.2195.6655 running ipsraidn stopped There is a lot more information on the scan, but the system is at 640X480 and I can't get it on one page which makes it hard for me to see it all. There was also something else that was weird I just tried to load a BIOS update from the Intel website and I got this error message; This program is unable to continue. The system you are trying to update is not based on an Intel motherboard. I chose update D815EGEW. The intel identification utility says it is an 815 chipset, and the Everest software also says this. |

Here's the Win2K drivers download page for the EVO D300v:
Compaq Evo D300v Microtower Download and install Chipset first, then Network, then you should be able to get online with the system to get the rest. HTH Jerry

I did it and still cannot connect. I installed chipset support for windows restarted then installed the most recent network driver and restarted. I then shut off my modem while I plugged into the machine then turned the modem on, then I opened run entered cmd, when the window opened I entered ipconfig. The result was the window showed me a message Windows 2000 IP Configuration I tried opening IE and it told me no internet connection was available. ![]() Good night I need a break from this. Re: win2k after HD replacement
Just my opinion: you should probably get the patches at the bottom of this page (in particular SP4) prior to installing drivers.
How do you normally connect to the internet? Do you use PPPoE DSL? (It looks like a dial-up window and you type in a username and a password). Or do you use always-on internet? If the former, Windows 2000 doesn't have a built-in PPPoE like XP does. Get RASPPPoE 0.98b from here http://www.raspppoe.com It's not too difficult to install. When you're done, you just run raspppoe while the modem is on and it should create the connection. If you use an always-on internet connection, you'll probably need to read the modem documentation or instructions given to you by your ISP. You may have to set your IP address manually (it'll be like 192.168.0.something or 10.0.0.something) (it's in control panel, network and dial-up connections, your network connection, click TCP/IP, properties, and one of the tab lets you set the IP address manually). With some modem models you can access the modem by typing in the IP address of the modem into your browser URL bar. Beyond that, I'd say get all the drivers as mentioned above from the HP site (they tend to be more current than ones on a drivers CD for instance). Also get the following patches for Windows 2000: Service Pack 4: http://www.microsoft.com/downloadS/d...0-297BD6CA33A0 Update rollup 1 for SP4: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...b-bf28b324c662 Internet Explorer 6 SP1: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...b-20b602228de6 Windows Installer 3.1 v2: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...8-de776fd4138c DirectX 9.0c August 2008: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...a-5c15d1d7199d Windows Media Player 9: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...Downloads.aspx If you're getting a long pause "saving settings" when logging off or shutting down, get this too: User Profile Hive Cleaner: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...0-42470e2f3582 I also recommend TweakUI if you like adjusting the user interface a bit: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...US/Tweakui.exe (install is a bit peculiar - it extracts to your temp folder by default, so open my computer then type in the address bar %temp% then right-click tweakui.inf and pick install - you'll get an icon in your control panel for it). Then go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and patch up your system with the latest updates. And naturally you'll need a firewall and antivirus/antispyware (2000 doesn't have a built-in firewall). |

Re: win2k after HD replacement
Good mporning Blah
when I got this computer I used dialup. After the HD blew I ended up finally going to laptop. I had gotten this compuiter only because I couldn't get the local techs to fix my win98 machine which I would still be using if I had had S&D on it when I caught that Russian bug. I was still relying on norton. But I digress, I am now using a cable modem, I guess always since I just plug it in to connect. The ISP taught me to do the ipconfig in DOS and it doesn't do anything. I'm putting in sp4 now and I'll work on the rest of those recomendations. as far as the rest of those programs and drivers I have downloaded from bothe Intel and HP without success. I think I'm not getting the right ones somehow and that one Intel BIOS driver did stop itself and say I did not have an Intel based Board?! But their own chipset identification utility says otherwise. Last edited by chris47; 07-04-2009 at 09:36 AM. |

Yes, I type and enter ipconfig in the command window and I get Windows 2000 IP Configuration and the prompt(?) returns. BTW the prompt looks like this; C:\Documents and Settings\user> I'll try ipconfig/all right now Woohoo something new! the result is this Windows IP Configuration Host Name. . . .. . . . . . . . . .: user-3cd417dac5 Primary DNS Suffix . . .. . . . . : IP Routing Enabled . . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled . . . . . . . : No Back to prompt. The ethernet controller has a yellow question mark with a yellow circle and an exclamation point in it covering the question mark. and it is in the Other Devices category if that matters. Thanks for the BIOS info I think it's sinking in.

Re: win2k after HD replacement
If it says ethernet adapter without a name, it's likely missing the driver.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...vOID=181#11395 Get the one that says "Intel PRO/100 VE Desktop Adapter Driver for Windows 98SE and 2000" (version 5.41.32) |

Re: win2k after HD replacement
Ok some embarrassing news here: sheepish grin,
![]() I wasn't installing the drivers properly, or I should say the kid who was claiming 20 years experience with computers didn't load it correctly. it is installing now. Didn't work. I restarted to nake sure it installed. Dialup properties says in Connect using, (red colored X) X Modem Removed-Unavailable Device[COM1] In device manager there is no modem. the network adapter is labeled correct but it has that yellow circle with a ! in the center of it. Re: win2k after HD replacement
I'm online with the computer in question. Hopefully I'll figure it out now. I can't seem to find the scan link on HP's site.
Can't seem to get the graphics right. I download from the HP site.? It's a very old Pano View 745 LCD. The CTX site doesn't even have anything about them on there any more. I know the monitor is ok tho since It worked fine with another machine and went to 1280Xxxxx whatever the other number is. The Intel site scan didn't find anything they could do and the HP site scan just sends me to the page I've been loading from. Last edited by chris47; 07-04-2009 at 12:24 PM. |
